A tribute to my Cebu Bloggers Society family as they celebrate their 10th anniversary

It is the 10th anniversary of my Cebu Bloggers' Society Family! And the trusted organization of the best Cebu Bloggers will be celebrating it in style with a Gala Night at the Cebu Parklane International Hotel on March 3, 2018 with McDonald's Philippines as event partner. Can't believe it has been 10 years already.

Several years ago, I was watching this fun, dynamic group from afar through their website and I was immediately attracted to join them.

I was not a dialysis patient then and I knew nothing about blogging except for an early attempt at it on Friendster. And boy I learned a lot from this group regarding blogging and social media.

Members were not just my Facebook friends. They became family.

You might think they care only about their blog views or number of followers. But they do care. They care about the places they go to. They care about everything Cebu. They care about the people. No wonder Hearts Day is also CBS day.

I cannot forget this Christmas gift-giving we had at the Missionaries of the Poor way back. I served as Santa Claus and the rest were bringing cheer to the elderly and children housed in the facility. I cannot forget the smiles of everyone that day.

Events were we are invited to cover became moments for bonding.

Each event is a fun and educational experience.  I became a well-rounded person (not just literally).

Because of Cebu Bloggers Society, I became "techie" and this help me in keeping up with my young students. My networks expanded. It was not limited anymore to my line of work or profession.

I became proficient in using social media which proved to be useful later when I got sick.

Fast forward to the present. I am a hemodialysis patient trying to educate and inspire fellow dialysis patients using social media.  I am part of #HealthXPh and #DialysisPh . I add to the voice of many dialysis patients out there. I use blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook Live and other social media tools for my advocacy.

Despite my condition, I remain upbeat, positive and active offline and online And Cebu Bloggers Society is a big part of why I am able to do what I do online.

I may not be able to attend many events as I use to. But in my heart, Cebu Bloggers Society remains to be a part of me.

Cebu City Marriott Hotel supports celebration of CBSi's 7th year

Happy #CBSi7 anniversary my beloved Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. (CBSi)!

The evening after the Day of Hearts, CBSi, (as the number 7 suggests) is lucky to have Cebu City Marriott Hotel as the venue for their 7th year celebration, a fitting venue for such an accomplishment. 7 years says a lot about CBSi, the original and premier blogging organization originating in Cebu with a current roster of bloggers who are among the most respected in social media and their respective blogging niches in the country from its humble beginnings within a Yahoo group. The longevity is a testament to CBSi's professionalism and good reputation which allows it and its members to be continually tapped by the community of food makers, tourism, businessmen and social advocates for its various campaigns and causes. For example, CBSi is among the first partners for the 1st Healthcare Social Media Summit in the Philippines.

CBSi remains committed to help especially in the promotion of Cebu to the world as well as other advocacies without expecting anything in return. First Social Media Day Cebu this June 30, 2012

Social media has grown by leaps and bounds especially here in the Philippines where many Filipinos have accounts in different social networking sites and different social media platforms. Here in Cebu, bloggers have used social media to promote advocacies, educate and give information to their social networks.

It is therefore appropriate that social media has its own day in the calendar when people celebrate its presence and its various roles.

That day initiated by Mashable is June 30.

In Cebu, its first Social Media Day celebration will be spearheaded by the Cebu Bloggers Society Incorporated (CBSi) through an event that will also serve as a general assembly for CBSi members in Mactan Isla Resort.

“Social Media Day Cebu  will be a day of fun and blogging literacy, of acquaintances and sharing stories about blogging and social media,” exclaimed Cebu Bloggers Society President Ruben Licera Jr.


It is a day where bloggers, social media practitioners, friends, acquaintances who benefited from social media meet to learn, interact, form partnerships and connect while having fun.


The event which is open to both members and nonmembers of Cebu Bloggers Society will be highlighted by a series of talks as indicated in this program. Topics include "Freelancing with Elance", "Ethics online and in the field", "Writing killer content for your blog" and "Increasing your online influence through social media networks."
